Jim Mastro earned two letters as a running back at Cal Poly, where a man named Mike Leach served as offensive line coach. While Leach built successful passing attacks at Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas Tech, Mastro helped craft devestating running attacks at Idaho, Nevada and UCLA, among other places. After a year getting the program up to speed, Leach, Mastro and drastically overqualified inside receivers coach David Yost, Wazzu is ready to turn heads in 2013.
"It's year two and you have a culture that, these players understand what we want now," Mastro says, "they understand where our expectations are. We're not going to lower our expectations. This is where they are, you're going to rise up to us. These guys have done that, they're trying to rise to those expectations. If they get there we'll have a pretty good year."
