Two-time Super Bowl champion Hines Ward is joining Arizona State's coaching staff as wide receivers coach, according to multiple reports on Saturday.
Ward is set to replace Ra'Shaad Samples, who left his post as ASU's wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator to coach running backs at Oregon.
Ward caught 1,000 passes on the dot across a 14-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers that concluded in 2011. He made overtures to enter college coaching as far back as 2016, and entered the profession as an intern with the Steelers in 2017.
He spent 2019-20 as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets, and 2021 as Florida Atlantic's wide receivers coach. Ward also served as the short-lived Alliance of American Football's head of football development.
Ward worked most recently as the head coach of the XFL's San Antonio Brahmas, but was not retained as part of the XFL/USFL merger.
