The video clips will tell the story.
Kenny Dillingham, admittedly, for a change has no interest in rehashing the bizarre conclusion to his Arizona State squad's thrilling takedown of College Football Playoff-ranked No. 14 BYU Saturday afternoon.
I" love going into details on things. I’m not going to go into details on that one," said Dillingham, who also urged fans to buy up 2025 season tickets. "We won the football game. We beat another ranked team in Mountain America Stadium. This is all about the guys. These guys battled. These guys fought and they found a way to win.
"It doesn’t matter whatever happened at the end, happened.
"You know what? We got to rush the field twice. How about that? We rushed the field three times this year, that’s pretty cool. Not many people get the opportunity to do that. Come to Arizona State, because there’s going to be a lot more of that coming forward."
To recap: Arizona State led by the game's final margin, 28-23, when it first-and-goal inside the BYU 10.
The Sun Devils, rather than punch in a touchdown for a two-possession lead with only a few seconds on the clock, marched deliberately backwards as the Cougars burned up their remaining timeouts.
With a mere seven ticks left on the clock and facing fourth-and-goal from near midfield, Dillingham instructed quarterback Sam Leavitt to waste time and then launch an incomplete pass.
Problem? Officials, much to Dillingham's dismay, ruled that the play took only six seconds.
BYU got a shot at a Hail Mary but the pass fell incomplete.
The video below shows Dillingham vehemently telling officials "There's no way there's a second left!"
