Pete Thamel shares today that Will Friend is expected to finalize a deal to become the Tar Heels new offensive line coach under Belichick.
Friend spent last season as the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky.
The veteran college offensive line coach also has stops working with offensive lines at Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia and Tennessee.
He also logged three seasons alongside Mike Bobo at Colorado State where he held the offensive coordinator title.
Last fall, the Hilltoppers finished 26th nationally in passing yards per game, an area they've continually excel in, especially under head coach Tyson Helton.
Friend is a former four-year starter on the offensive line at Alabama and has mentored five offensive lineman that have heard their names called during the NFL Draft.
Thamel adds that longtime NFL special teams coordinator Mike Priefer, who has been in the league since 2002 and most recently called the shots for the Browns from 2019-22, is also expected to finalize a deal to join the staff.
Priefer has coordinated special teams for the Chiefs, Broncos, and Vikings as well, and served as an assistant special teams coach with the Jags and Giants.
His last stop in college football was at Northern Illinois in 2001 as special teams coordinator and defensive tackles coach under Joe Novak.
