Chicago Bears fire Matt Eberflus (Matt Eberflus Fired)

The Chicago Bears have fired Matt Eberflus, according to multiple reports on Friday.

The move comes one day after Eberflus exhibited one of the biggest in-game meltdowns in NFL history. With 30 seconds remaining and one timeout remaining, Eberflus watched idly as the Bears ran only one play while trailing the Detroit Lions 23-20 with the ball at the Detroit 41-yard line.

Afterward, Eberflus defended the indefensible, saying, "I like what we did there."

"Again, once it's under seven [seconds], you're going to call a timeout there -- actually under 12 and then really you don't have an option because it's third to fourth, you have to throw it into the end zone then," he concluded.

Of course, things weren't good before Thursday's meltdown. The Bears fell to 4-8 on the season after starting 4-2.

For Chicago, Eberflus is the first mid-season head coaching firing in more than 100 years, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
