While a lot of folks consider being a college head coach one of the pinnacles of the coaching profession, there is a widespread belief that there are some high school jobs out there that may actually be better than college head coaching jobs.
Texas - the land of indoor high school facilities, vast resources, and $60+ million stadiums - is one of those states where there are a number of high school jobs many would consider to be better than some college jobs out there.
One Texas high school programs recently lured a successful college coach away to lead their program.
Josh Littrell, the head coach at Waldorf (NAIA - IA) has decided to return to the high school ranks in Texas after going 20-11 in three seasons at the college level. Littrell not only successfully turned around the Waldorf program and but also helped them crack the NAIA Top 25 rankings for the first-time ever as they climbed to #23 in the final poll in December.
Littrell has accepted the head coach / athletic coordinator position at Earl Warren HS (San Antonio, TX). The move is a familiar one for him and his family, as he previously spent seven seasons as the offensive coordinator for the program.
Assistant head coach / defensive coordinator Will Finley is being promoted to head coach of the Waldorf program, and Littrell plans to stick around campus for a bit to help him transition to the head coaching role. Finley, who just wrapped up his first season as the defensive play caller, previously served as the defensive coordinator at Benedictine (NAIA - KS).
