Contract extension reportedly set to make Andy Reid NFL's highest paid coach (Andy Reid)

According to an article from Sportico back in November, Bill Belichick was the highest paid coach not only in the NFL but also in professional sports at $25 million per year with Broncos head coach Sean Payton in a distant second at $18 million annually last year.

With Belichick away from the sideline for at least the next year, there will reportedly be a new coach taking his place atop the list of the highest paid NFL head coaches.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced new deals for team president Mark Donovan, GM Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid tonight.

Tom Pelissero shares that the new deal for Reid will make him the highest paid coach in the league. The jump over Payton's $18 million annual salary would mark a considerable raise for Reid from the $11.5 million he reportedly made last season, prior to incentives kicking in.

The trio of Reid, Donovan and Veach have put together an incredible run since being put together in 2017 and are responsible for a roster that has gone 100-34 during that span. That run includes 7-straight AFC West titles, four AFC championships and an impressive three Super Bowls.

As rumors around how long he will continue to coach pick up steam more and more each off season, the new deal locks Reid in through 2029, Pelissero's report adds.

At the end of that contract, Reid will be 71 years old.

He currently ranks fourth all-time in regular season wins trailing only legendary coaches like Don Shula, George Halas and Bill Belichick with 258 wins between his time with the Eagles and Chiefs.

It's plausible to think that Reid could win another Super Bowl, or two, or even three with Patrick Mahomes and a strong nucleus in place before that deal runs out and the organization - and Reid himself - have to decide what their respective futures look like.

For now, he's set in KC with two key pieces of the front office puzzle returning as well.
