Dabo Swinney got a little worked up today at his press conference when asked about the game day set up down at Miami, where his squad went down and beat the Hurricanes 58-0, handing the 'Canes their worst home loss in program history and effectively ending the tenure of head coach Al Golden.
Using the best reference of "bush league" since Anchorman, Dabo explained the environment down in Coral Gables.
"Anything that you do nowadays, everyone has a camera around, and first of all, it's a terrible setup down there...it's bush league. They shouldn't have two teams going out [on the field] from the same place."
"You've got bickering and all this stuff going on and there's a distraction before the game that I wasn't out there to address it early, and then you've got all this stuff in the game, and then we all have to go back through the same [tunnel]...it's just, it's not smart."
Dabo explained that a situation presented itself where he didn't like the chippy-ness and some of the responses from of his guys, so he used it as a teaching moment and kept his team out on the field at halftime instead of entering the locker room through the same hostile tunnel as Miami, as you can see in this picture.
"I want to win, and I want to kill the opponent, I want to crush them, but I want to do it the right way and feel good about how we win."
"I teach. That's what I do. I teach. I coach. You have opportunities to teach and coach, so I just treat them like my three sons. I don't do anything here that I don't do at home in the Swinney home. Every situation is an opportunity to teach, these are young people that need to grow up."
"They've got a lot to learn, and they don't know. If they could do it all without us, then what the heck are we there for?"
