For reasons perhaps known only to Jay Norvell, Colorado State's second-year head coach elected to poke the bear.
Err, the Buffalo. As in the head Colorado Buffalo, Deion Sanders aka Coach Prime.
Norvell said his mother had taught him to take off his hat and sunglasses when speaking to adults, conducting an interview, etc. Norvell didn't outright say Deion Sanders, but his Colorado State Rams face Coach Prime's Buffaloes Saturday at Folsom Field.
A mystery, this was not.
"Now he's messing with my mom," Coach Prime said in a 10-second clip on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. "He can't be ... he done put my Mom in it now. Said he wasn't raised that way!"

Now, Deion Sanders has issued his rebuttal -- also without having said Norvell's or Colorado State's names.
"I'm minding my own business, watching some film, getting ready; trying to get out here and be the best coach that I can be," Sanders told his team, per video shared by Deion Sanders Jr. "And I look up and read some bull-junk that they done said about us."
"Talk to 'em. Talk to 'em," said a chorus of Colorado players.
"Once again, why would you want to talk about us, when we don't talk about nobody?," Coach Prime asked his team. "All we do is go out here and work our butts off and do our job on Saturdays. But when they give is ammunition, they've done messed around and made it what?"
"Personal," the players said emphatically.

"It was just going to be a good game. They done messed around and made it what?"
"Personal," they repeated.
"It's going to be a great test, the battle of Colorado but they done messed around and made it ..."
"Personal."

The Rams, it would seem, likely needed not supply any tangible motivation for the ever-aggrieved Sanders, who has guided his program in short order to be the host location this week of ESPN's renowned College GameDay show.
Colorado is a 23-point favorite and seeking to move to 3-0 on the season; the Rams are 0-1 and just 3-10 in their first 13 games under Norvell.
Kick-off for the sold-out "Battle of Colorado" is Saturday night at 8.
