Details for Nick Rolovich's contract at Washington State are out (contracts)

Nick Rolovich is now installed as Washington State's new head coach, and we now have details of his contract.

Rolo signed a 5-year deal that will pay him $3 million annually. The contract is set to expire June 30, 2025.

The coach-end buyout starts at $8 million should he leave before the 2021 season, drop to $6 million in term Year 2, $5 million in Year 3, $2 million in Year 4 and $1 million thereafter. Should Rolovich be fired without cause, Washington State would owe him 60 percent of the remaining base salary subject to his duty to mitigate by finding further employment.

Of note, Rolovich's base salary is $2 million of his $3 million salary so, based on that language, Washington State would owe $4.8 million (60 percent of $8 million) if he were let go after the 2020 campaign.

The $3 million salary is a decrease from the $4 million Mike Leach was set to make had he remained at the school -- he signed a 1-year extension last month -- but represents a 400 percent raise from the $600,000 Rolovich earned at Hawaii.

The $3 million salary would make Rolovich the seventh-highest paid head coach in the Pac-12, based on 2019 figures.
