Details of Charles Huff's deal at Southern Miss (Southern Miss)

Charles Huff made $755k this past season while leading Marshall to a Sun Belt title, dismantling Louisiana in the title game 31-3.

Huff's salary was the second lowest in the entire league ahead of only first-year head coach Bryant Vincent ($600k).

Unwilling to extend their coach, despite a 10-3 record, the Thundering Herd administration let Huff walk, and their loss has turned out to be Southern Miss' gain.

His recently inkedq deal at Southern Miss is set to pay him like the top coach in the Sun Belt he proved to be this past season.

Huff is set to make $950k annually in his new role, as part of his four-year deal with the Golden Eagles, documents obtained and shared by Andrew Abadie share.

Only two current Sun Belt coaches make more - GJ Kinne, who just inked a contract extension to keep him at Texas State and made just over $1 million this past season, and Coastal Carolina's Tim Beck who earned $1.05 million.

Huff has been allotted $1.75 million to assemble his staff, with an additional $600k for his support staff.

His deal states that both those figures are minimum allotments.

If the university were to fire him without cause, Huff would be due 100% of the total remaining annual compensation.

In the event Huff were to leave before March 1, 2025 he would owe $2 million. That would decrease to $1 million if he left before December 8, 2025, and then drop by $250k each subsequent year until reaching $0 owed if he left before the final regular season game of the 2029 season.
