College football has yet another card-carrying member of the $1 million Coordinators Club.
Georgia released the details of Todd Monken's contract as the Bulldogs' new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The former Southern Miss head coach and NFL offensive coordinator netted a 3-year deal, signed March 31, that will pay him $1.1 million in 2020, $1.25 million in 2021 and $1.5 million in 2022.
Indicating Georgia's confidence in Monken and the Kirby Smart regime, the contract is fully guaranteed.
Monken would owe Georgia 20 percent of the remaining contract should he leave for another college assistant job. That would equate to $550,000 if he left after this coming season and $300,000 if he left after 2021. He would owe $400,000 if he left for an NFL assistant job, and nothing to become a head coach.
Monken replaced James Coley, who is now the tight ends coach at Texas A&M. He made $950,000 in 2019.
In an offseason filled with SEC offensive coordinator moves, Bobo's deal puts him behind South Carolina's Mike Bobo ($1.2 million) and ahead of Arkansas's Kendal Briles ($1 million), LSU's Scott Linehan ($800,000), Auburn's Chad Morris ($735,000). Contract details for Ole Miss's Jeff Lebby have not yet been made public.
Monken will be the ninth highest-paid assistant in the SEC, but the second highest-paid on the Georgia staff. Defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was boosted to $1.25 million earlier this year.
