Pittsburgh's James Conner was one of the ACC's returning stars this season after rushing for over 1,700 yards on 298 carries with 16 touchdowns last season en route to the ACC Player of the Year award.
But in the first half of Pitt's season opener against Youngstown State, after Conner had already racked up 77 yards and two touchdowns on just 8 carries, he went down with a serious knee injury and later found out that he'd be done for the year.
Normally that wouldn't elicit a response from a fellow ACC coach, but not all coaches are like David Cutcliffe. Cut felt compelled to respond after hearing the news, so he sent Conner a quick note to let him know that he, and the entire Duke community, were saddened to hear the news of the injury, and that they're all hoping for a speedy recovery.
Conner took a picture of the letter, and issued a public thank you via Twitter to Cut and the Duke program for the well wishes.
Two weeks into the season, serious injuries to star players have dominated the headlines. Props to coach Cut and the Duke program for doing the right thing here and reaching out to an opponent when he probably needed it the most.
