Ed Warinner is set to become Florida Atlantic's run game coordinator and tackles/tight ends coach sources confirm to FootballScoop. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic first reported the news.
Warinner spent the past 17 seasons in the Power 5 as the offensive line coach and/or offensive coordinator at Kansas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Minnesota and Michigan. He was the offensive coordinator on a 2007 Kansas team that went 12-1 and came within a game of playing for the BCS title and was co-offensive coordinator for Ohio State's 2014 national championship team.
He spent the past three seasons as Michigan's offensive line coach but was not retained following the Wolverines' disappointing 2-4 campaign last fall.
At FAU, Warinner will join a staff with plenty of Power 5 experience. Head coach Willie Taggart and associate head coach Raymond Woodie worked in similar roles at Oregon and Florida State, co-offensive coordinator Michael Johnson has coordinated offenses for UCLA and the Baltimore Ravens, and defensive line coach Kevin Patrick holds similar experience at NC State and Texas Tech.
The Owls hired Mike Stoops as defensive coordinator last month.
As tackles and tight ends coach, Warinner would work in concert with offensive line coach Jeff Norrid, who has led the Owls' offensive line for the past two seasons.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
