It isn't just the on-screen, big-name personalities being purged from ESPN amidst the network's ongoing cost-cutting spree.
On Monday, multiple outlets reported that Lee Fitting had been terminated by ESPN. Fitting's biography also has been purged from ESPN's web site.
First arriving at the self-proclaimed "Worldwide Leader in Sports" in 1996, Fitting steadily climbed the ranks at ESPN, which for years bolstered its network growth through its award-winning "College GameDay" live shows on football Saturdays, as well as by far the most in-depth coverage of NFL until the NFL launched its own network.
ESPN has made a number of notable cuts throughout this summer, with Zach Barnett chronicling in late-June that ESPN was purging nearly two-dozen highly visible on-air personalities.
The network has publicly disclosed its intention to cut billions of dollars in spending, and it recently was revealed ESPN had entered into a joint sports gambling venture with Penn Entertainment for a reported $1.5 billion.
ESPN has its first college football broadcast Saturday, when it handles the UMass at New Mexico State Week 0 opener.
