Ex-FSU, NFL star blasts coaches 'trying to get fame' off Deion Sanders (Corey Fuller)

Say this for the Southwestern Athletic Conference: It likely never has gotten more media attention.

And even if Deion Sanders and his Jackson State squad are not involved this weekend in the league's annual conference championship game, Sanders is still in the news.

However, it isn't Sanders' quest to brand a line of prophylactics to market the JSU program.

It's Corey Fuller, who like Sanders is a former Florida State standout and veteran NFL player, putting other SWAC coaches on blast for what Fuller terms their quest to gain “15 minutes” of fame via Sanders' outspoken arrival into the league.

Fuller took issue with a Tweet from Alabama A&M assistant coach Fred T. Farrier lamenting the No. 22 Bulldogs having to face-off against No. 25 University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in Jackson Memorial Stadium, Jackson State's home venue, for Saturday's SWAC title bout (2 p.m., ESPN2).

The move stems from multiple league games last weekend being cancelled and SWAC leadership electing to move the contest to a neutral site.

“Hi, I'm Corey Fuller,” he says in a video posted to his Twitter account, @CoreyFuller4. “I was sent a Tweet this morning from an Alabama A&M coaching staff member.

“Coach (Connell) Maynor, y'all won a great game two weeks ago against Jackson State. You had your 15 minutes of fame. You talk real tough on the video. You said what you had to say. You let your feelings be known. But Deion Sanders is only trying to bring spotlight, revenue and better resources to HBCU football and to the SWAC Conference.

“For you presidents who allow your coaches to keep trying to defame Deion Sanders. One thing we know for sure, Deion has a way of talking. He has a way of making things sound sweet and look good. He has a heart of gold to help his people. Y'all coaches that are supposed to be leaders, we have enough foolishness going on in this world, in our own communities, and against Black people. But you continue to make yourself bigger than what you are for your 15 minutes of fame. That is shameful.” Farrier, A&M's recruiting coordinator and running backs coach, made clear his issue on this neutral-site contest isn't about Sanders – nothing the Bulldogs already own a win against JSU; he believes the Bulldogs should be hosting APB.
