FootballScoop Weekend Primer: OU-Texas, Florida-Tennessee, Ole Miss-LSU, Ohio State-Oregon highlight elite weekend slate (Florida-Tennessee)

A premium matchup regular-season weekend of college football, or de facto College Football Playoff games from coast-to-coast?

Take your pick. Both are true.

While last weekend served notice on upsets galore, with previous unbeatens Alabama, Missouri and Tennessee tumbling, along with USC and nearly Miami, this weekend is one of the greatest feasts of college football games.

The Red River Rivalry, nee Shootout, pits fierce rivals Oklahoma and Texas at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas -- but with the twist that it's the first-ever RRR with the programs as Southeastern Conference residents.

A second loss for the Sooners all but dooms any slim odds they hold for a berth in the SEC Championship and makes every single game remaining on their schedule must-win from a CFP perspective.

Undefeated, Texas still has Georgia looming just on the horizon.

And Josh Heupel's Tennessee Vols find their visit from Billy Napier's Gators an absolute must-win affair after the Vols stumbled to a 19-14 loss at Arkansas; they still have upcoming dates with Alabama at home and Georgia on the road.

Oregon-Ohio State is the stuff of Big Ten dreams, impossible to separate fantasy from fiction in this contest that now has both teams as Big Ten residents.

It's also Chip Kelly returning to Eugene, Oregon, with yet a different team, after previously returning while atop UCLA, though now Kelly's guiding the indomitable Buckeyes' offense.

Dan Lanning's squad is unbeaten and No. 3 in the polls, but the Ducks have yet to remotely play a complete game. Is this it?

Does Penn State sustain its unbeaten start with its cross-country, nearly 3,000-mile trip to Los Angeles to face Lincoln Riley and USC? With two losses already and still more cross-country travel of their own, the Trojans absolutely are playing to keep alive fleeting CFP hopes.

And, oh yeah. Down on the Bayou. Ole Miss at LSU. A deep-seated, fierce rivalry that's rarely ever seen the Rebels win in Death Valley.

But Ole Miss rarely has had teams as talented as this one that Lane Kiffin has assembled via the Transfer Portal and recruiting.

For subplot, consider the preseason "Soda Wars" waged on Kiffin by LSU's Brian Kelly, who humorously opened a press conference extolling the virtues of all of Coca-Cola's products a day after Kiffin had incredulously read aloud the caloric and sugar contents of a 20-ounce bottle of Coke.

It just means more ... thirst-quenching? Or, CFP dreams?

Wait, there's more. The FootballScoop crew dives into the Kansas State-Colorado game, Arizona-BYU, Vanderbilt-Kentucky, South Carolina-Alabama and many more games. It's another primetime game for Coach Prime's squad, as the Deion Sanders-led Buffaloes host the Wildcats in a game that can further bolster Travis Hunter's Heisman Trophy candidacy.

Dive in. Tune in, please. And enjoy the weekend.
