Former Auburn player, EKU coach set to join Bowden's ULM staff (Alec Brown)

The work being done at Eastern Kentucky by Walt Wells' new regime isn't going unnoticed.

The Colonels are losing lead defensive quality control coach Alec Brown to a defensive graduate assistant coaching position on Terry Bowden's inaugural ULM Warhawks staff.

After a playing career at Auburn University, Brown's climbed quickly through the ranks.

He spent a brief period as a high school coach in Alabama, helping Pinson Valley to the state's 6A championship, before he worked on the staff at Murray State in 2019.

Just a year ago, he was hired to join Wells' rebuilding efforts for the Colonels.

Working closely with Derek Day, the EKU outside linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator, Brown & Co. helped the Colonels' defense lock-up then-No. 11 Central Arkansas in the school's first win against a Top 25 team in nearly a decade.

EKU finished its abbreviated fall 2020 season โ€“ one of the only Football Championship Subdivision teams to play more than a handful of games โ€“ 3-3 against FCS foes.

It also nearly upset Troy in a 31-29 loss that was one of the program's three games against Football Bowls Subdivision foes.
