Fresno State reportedly targeting USC assistant, former North Dakota State head coach Matt Entz (Fresno State Coaching Search)

Fresno State is targeting USC assistant head coach Matt Entz as its next head coach, according to a report from The Athletic on Wednesday.

Entz is in his first season as USC's assistant head coach and linebackers coach after coming over from North Dakota State. He spent a decade with the Bison and five as head coach, going 60-11 with two FCS national championships.

USC to date represents Entz's only season at the FBS level. He coached at Illinois College, Wayne State, Northern Iowa and Western Illinois prior to joining the premier program in FCS.

Entz would become the third consecutive NDSU head coach to immediately or eventually land an FBS head coaching job. Craig Bohl left Fargo for Wyoming in 2014, and Chris Klieman took the Kansas State job in 2019.

Fresno State is looking for stability after spending the 2024 season under interim head coach Tim Skipper. Jeff Tedford was the Bulldogs' head coach from 2017-19 and again from 2022-23 before stepping down in July due to health concerns. Kalen DeBoer was Fresno State's head coach between Tedford stints; his 12-6 run from 2020-21 earned him the Washington job.

Fresno State went 6-6 this fall and awaits a bowl destination.
