Georgia Southern has announced that they are making a coordinator change.
Offensive coordinator Bob DeBesse has been relieved of his duties and tight ends coach Doug Ruse is taking over as interim offensive coordinator and will move to quarterbacks.
Through their ten games this season, GSU ranks 77th nationally in points scored per game (27 ppg), 125th in passing offense (101 ypg), and 87th in total offense. A program that has hung their hat on running the football for years now, Georgia Southern was carrying the 5th ranked rushing offense under DeBesse.
Stepping into the offensive coordinator role will be a return for Ruse, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the program in 2014 and 2015. In those two seasons, Ruse's offense averaged 37.7 points per game and led the FBS in rushing both seasons.
DeBesse will leave the program, and Lunsford notes in the school's release that he will make a decision on who will take of Ruse's duties coaching the tight ends at a later date.
