UCF has hired Kam Martin as its running backs coach, head coach Gus Malzahn announced Wednesday.
This is essentially the third time Malzahn has hired Martin. The first came back in 2016, when Martin signed with Auburn. A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Martin was part of the Baylor class that was released from their National Letters of Intent when Art Briles was fired that summer. According to his 247Sports profile, Martin visited Auburn on June 24, 2016, committed on June 26, enrolled on June 28, and by September 10 of that year he was running the ball for Malzahn's Tigers.
Martin concluded his Auburn career in 2019 with 300 touches for 1,757 yards and nine touchdowns across 47 games.
He joined the coaching profession as a recruiting and offensive assistant with Malzahn's first UCF team in 2021. GJ Kinne brought Martin with him to San Antonio when he landed the Incarnate Word head coaching job in 2022, and then brought him with him again when the former was named the head coach at Texas State in December.
Instead, Martin will now move to Orlando a second time, and move the rock for Malzahn a third time.
Excited to welcome @TeamKamMartin back to Orlando!! He’s going to do a great job leading our running backs! #ChargeOn pic.twitter.com/7P4qzcfgY2
