Alabama A&M (FCS) head coach Connell Maynor declared earlier this week, following their game against North Alabama (FCS) last weekend that, as long as he was head coach, they'd never again play UNA.
At his weekly presser Monday, according to the Florence Times Daily, Maynor shared that his program received no complimentary tickets or tickets to sell to the public for their game, players weren't allowed on the field until two hours before kickoff, and that his assistant coaches were held back on their way up to the press box so that fans could use the elevator first just before kickoff.
Maynor also shared in the press conference, which was done via Facebook live but has since been taken down, that there was an alleged disagreement between a police officer or security guard and an assistant where the officer kept his hand on his gun.
“It ain’t 1959, we don’t have to put up with that type stuff. We’re not going to play them again, not as long as I am head coach.”
"I'm disappointed in the way they treated us in every aspect," Maynor said, according to AL.com, who go on to point out that A&M was not set to receive complimentary tickets as part of what is outlined in the game contract.
The two schools issued a joint statement together today that read, in part:
"...both universities have been in communication since Monday about the recent UNA-AAMU football game at Braly Stadium to decide what, if any, next steps are necessary. Both institutions are committed to providing a safe, accommodating, friendly, and inclusive environment.
The match up was the second of a two-game contract between the two programs and there are currently no future plans to play each other again. Alabama A&M won 31-24 over UNA after overcoming an 18-0 halftime deficit.
