The fight to get your resume at the top of a pile is a battle not unique to coaching.
Over the years at FootballScoop, I've heard of some really outside the box approaches to getting a resume to stand out, in fact I once hand-delivered my resume hand written on a dozen yellow softballs to a local athletic director who played adult slow pitch softball at an elite level who had a head coaching opening hoping that it would be enough to stand out (Spoiler alert: It didn't work. I didn't even get an interview).
But that perspective brings me to a more modern approach that has already garnered some early national media attention.
Kevin Cedar is a talented video and photography personality based out of Cleveland whose dream job is to work as a video editor for the hometown Browns.
In a space where even the best visual portfolios have a hard time standing out, it can be hard to get your resume at the top of the pile.
So Cedar decided the best way to do that was to invest some money in an outside-the-box approach.
He harnessed the power of Cameo, an online platform where people can pay celebrities for shoutouts and personalized messages, to connect with some iconic Cleveland personalities as well as well respected NFL voices.
...you can probably see where this is heading.
Cedar got iconic Browns players like Joe Thomas, Rajai Davis, and Josh Cribbs, longtime Indians player and 11-time Gold Glove winner and Hall of Famer Omar Vizquel, and NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. to vouch for him.
What ended up being created is a virtual resume that is truly one of a kind.
The investment in this type of resume wasn't cheap, but Cedar was banking on himself standing out from the crowd, and I'd say he nailed it. Cameo's for Joe Thomas ran about $173, Kiper's price was about $150, Cribbs' price starts at $75.
Here's what Cedar submitted to the Browns. Hopefully they give the guy a shot. Based on the creativity alone, I'd say he's earned it.
