Houston makes Mike Krysl special teams coordinator (Mike Krysl)

Mike Krysl's been a special teams coordinator at both the Football Bowls and Football Championship Subidivision levels.

Now, the former Central Missouri player is set to run his own room at the Power Conference level.

Hired by mentor Willie Fritz at the University of Houston January as a senior special teams analyst, Krysl now is poised to run the Cougars' third phase following his elevation to special teams coordinator.

Krysl previously was Chris Hatcher's special teams coordinator at FCS program Samford and held the same post under Jeff Monken at Army, where he guided the Black Knights' special teams unit.

He also owns additional experience at both the prep and collegiate levels.

Houston is entering its first season under Fritz and its second as a resident of the Big 12 Conference.

The Cougars open 2024 play Aug. 31 on FoxSports against UNLV before tangling with new SEC member Oklahoma on the road a week later.

Houston begins its upcoming Big 12 slate Sept. 21 at Cincinnati.
