The state of Michigan announced Friday it will move forward with its high school season as scheduled, and now another state in Big Ten country has followed suit.
Iowa on Friday announced it will play its high school seasons as scheduled. Practices for cross country, football and Class 4A golf will begin Aug. 10.
"The health and safety of student-athletes and their communities has been our priority as we work to provide opportunities during this pandemic," the statement read, "and will remain so as we move forward into the 2020-21 school year. We will continue to work with our partners at NFHS, IATS, and with the Iowa state government to develop protocols and sport-specific guidance, and will adjust as necessary."
Iowa was the first state nationwide to resume high school sports; the Hawkeye State's baseball and softball teams hit the diamond June 1 in advance of a June 15 opening day.
Iowa's baseball season continues today, with the playoffs slated to begin July 24 and the state tournament on Aug. 1.
Nine days after that, the state's football teams will step on the field for their first practices.
