Jack Del Rio resigns at Wisconsin following arrest (Wisconsin Football)

Jack Del Rio has resigned from his post on Wisconsin's support staff following an arrest over the weekend, head coach Luke Fickell announced Monday.

Del Rio, who was in his first season as a senior advisor to the head coach at Wisconsin, was arrested Friday for allegedly operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Madison police said Del Rio, 61, "showed signs of impairment" after the car he was driving hit a street sign and broke a fence, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg

“It’s a tough situation, decisions that all of us have to be able to take full responsibility for," Fickell said Monday. "So that’s what Jack will do and we’ll continue to move forward.”

Del Rio is formerly the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders. He was the Washington Commanders' defensive coordinator from 2020-23. The Wisconsin post was his first college appointment since Del Rio played linebacker for USC in the early 1980s.

Wisconsin, 5-4 on the season, hosts No. 1 Oregon on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC).
