ESPN's Outside the Lines is reporting that Jay High School assistant coach Mack Breed admitted after the game that he had "directed the students to make the referee pay for his racial comments and calls."
As we all know, the two safeties then intentionally and maliciously targeted the unknowing referee.
According the ESPN's report, head coach Gary Gutierrez met with principal Robert Harris following the game. According to notes taken by principal Harris, coach Gutierrez told the principal that on the bus ride home from the game, coach Breed asked him what would happen to the two players. When the head coach told him they would be removed from the team, coach Breed "informed coach Gutierrez that he directed the players to strike the referee."
The following day, coach Breed and coach Gutierrez met with the principal. At this meeting, according to notes from the principal, Coach Breed "told me that he directed the students to make the referee pay for his racial comments and calls. He wanted to take full responsibility for his actions. Mr. Breed at one point during our conversation stated that he should have handled the referee himself.
