After reporting yesterday that he was a top target in their search, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby has agreed to a deal to lead Mississippi State.
The school has formally announced the hire.
Multiple reports add Lebby has agreed to a five-year deal.
A former offensive coordinator at UCF under Josh Heupel, Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin and, most recently, the past two seasons leading an explosive offense for Brent Venables at Oklahoma, Lebby will be a first-time head coach in Starkville.
In Norman, Lebby led the #3 scoring offense in college football this past season, putting up over 43 points per game.
The search moved quickly, as the program parted ways with Zach Arnett after one season less than two weeks ago.
Prior to Arnett, the past two Bulldogs head coaches that have had success both had offensive backgrounds in Dan Mullen and Mike Leach. The appointment of Lebby to lead the program marks a return to that philosophy.
Lebby in Starkville and his former boss Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss will certainly add some additional intrigue to the in-state Egg Bowl rivalry for (hopefully) years to come.
Stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
Update: The hire has been announced.
An offensive mastermind, a dynamic play caller and the engineer of some of the most feared offenses in college football.
