Jim Harbaugh to interview with Los Angeles Chargers on Monday (Jim Harbaugh)

Well, this could be it.

Jim Harbaugh has brought the first national championship trophy since 1997 back to Ann Arbor, and he's taken his victory lap. And now it could be time to move on.

Harbaugh will interview with the LA Chargers on Monday according to various NFL reports, and it would be a surprise if he didn't take the job if offered.

The former 49ers coach has pursued NFL jobs the past two cycles and evaded questions about his future at Michigan during the Wolverines' Playoff run. He's also declined to sign an extension worth more than $100 million.

Harbaugh is not some also-ran candidate who considers himself lucky to get an interview. Other than Bill Belichick, he's the most qualified coach on the market -- and Harbaugh isn't 71 years old and coming off a 4-13 season.

Harbaugh hasn't suffered a (full) losing season his taking over moribund Stanford in 2007. He led the Cardinal to an Orange Bowl victory and a No. 4 finish, the 49ers to three straight NFC championships and one Super Bowl appearance, and Michigan to three straight Big Ten championships and one national championship.

It may not be comfortable and it may not always be fun, but whomever hires Harbaugh is virtually guaranteed to win.

ESPN's report that a decision is not expected "imminently" from either side: "Harbaugh will be deliberate with any decision he makes about his future, while he Chargers still have other candidates that they plan to interview."

Atlanta, Carolina, Las Vegas, Seattle, Tennessee and Washington also have openings, and other franchises could soon join.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
