Kansas Wesleyan tabs assistant from national championship squad as new head coach (Kansas Wesleyan University)

Kansas Wesleyan (NAIA) is turning to a college coaching veteran to turn around their program.

Matt Middleton, an assistant coach at defending D-II national champion Harding (AR), has been announced as the new head coach for the Coyotes.

The Bison went 15-0 and won the D-II national title last season, going a perfect 15-0 and rushed for more yards than any team in college football history while scoring over 50 points per game. After a dominant 48-3 win last Saturday, Harding has advanced to the second round of the playoffs this fall in their quest to repeat.

Middleton has coached the team's quarterbacks and fullbacks the past two seasons, where they have gone a combined 26-1 while he has been on staff.

A former high school head coach in Louisiana from 2014-22, Middleton has also spent time as an offensive coordinator at the Division II level at Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello.

Middleton will remain with Harding during playoff push for back-to-back titles.

He takes over a Kansas Wesleyan program that finished 7-5 last season.
