Kentucky recruiting coordinator and Vince Marrow is a veteran of the coaching profession, and has been with the Wildcats since 2012 where he has carved out a role as one of college football's best recruiters.
Heading into their January 2nd match up with NC State, Marrow has some additional duties on his plate as the team's interim offensive coordinator. Earlier this month, Mark Stoops announced that they were taking the offense in a new direction, dismissing offensive coordinator Eddie Gran and quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw. Taking the team in that new direction will be LA Rams assistant quarterbacks coach Liam Coen.
But for the upcoming bowl game, Marrow has the keys to the offense. At the beginning of his presser yesterday, Marrow compared going from position coach to offensive coordinator so suddenly to going from governor to President.
“I made a comment to someone saying, it’s like being a Governor of a state and then you become the President."
"You’re all about your state and then now you gotta worry about the whole country. That’s how it is with the offense now. I want to throw to the tight ends, but we also have to take a look at the bigger picture for what is going to make the offense go."
As for what kind of mentality folks can look for with Marrow now calling the shots, he says to look for a "Big Dog mentality."
"We’re going to be physical. We’re going to throw the ball but we’re still going to run the ball. Try to eliminate penalties and play sound, efficient football. I think when you look at, not just my offense but what we are at Kentucky, we’re always going to be physical. That’s never going to be something that people will question."
NC State and Kentucky will kick off at noon on January 2nd in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
