Lane Kiffin confronts a season over with a game left to play (Ole Miss)

The Swamp is back.

Ole Miss, much like LSU, is back out of the College Football Playoff picture.

And in the aftermath of his team's 24-17 upset-loss Saturday at Florida, Lane Kiffin acknowledged a brand-new reality for a college team that carried legitimate CFP aspirations into its penultimate contest.

"We're just in today. It's going to be really challenging," Kiffin said of trying to regroup his team for next week's Egg Bowl against in-state rival Mississippi State. "Just today, I ain't got to tomorrow yet. There was a lot at stake here and a lot of disappointed players and coaches in that locker room.

"It's the new-age setup. There's the Playoff line and you kind of know where that is a little bit and a third loss doesn't get you there. It's just a different world. Almost NFL-ish, getting knocked out of the Playoffs but still got a game to play. Obviously this is an important game, but we'll get to that tomorrow."

Ole Miss will look back at this game and see numerous, uncharacteristic miscues as root-cause of his damning defeat.

The Rebels outgained Florida by 120 yards but were 0-for-3 in the red zone, turned over the ball three times and were just a combined five of 18 on third- and fourth-down tries.

"A game of a lot of missed opportunities," Kiffin said. "Go 0-for-3 in the red zone, miss a field goal and get stopped twice on fourth down. And lose the turnover margin in a tough place to play against a team that's played really good when that quarterback plays.

"Really disappointed in the outcome. Obviously, a lot was at stake here, and we didn't come through. Lot of missed opportunities."
