John Welty has announced his retirement after leading the Westminster (D-III - MO) program for the last 24 years.
"I consider it an honor and privilege to have had the opportunity to coach football at Westminster," he shared in the school's release. "I would like to thank the College for entrusting me to lead this program and am thankful for seeing so many young men move on to successful careers after graduation."
The longtime leader of the program joined the staff in 1998 as defensive coordinator and was elevated to head coach heading into the 1999 season.
Welty enters retirement with an overall record of 103-108.
He led the program to a 1-8 finish this fall.
He won three UMAC South Division titles, along with two outright UMAC titles as well as a championship as a member of the SLIAC as well as numerous conference Coach of the Year honors.
Before joining the Westminster staff, Welty served as the head coach at Benedictine (D-III - IL) for eight seasons.
The school says they will immediately begin a national search for his replacement.
