LSU set to approve raises, contracts for Brian Kelly's coaching staff (Blake Baker)

The typical LSU game last season saw the Tigers and their opponent combine for 960 yards from scrimmage and 74 points. The combination of explosive offense and combustible defense saw Jayden Daniels win the Heisman, Mike Denbrock land the Notre Dame offensive coordinator job, and Matt House lose his job as LSU's defensive coordinator.

The resulting shuffling brought in six new assistants to Brian Kelly's staff, with internal promotions for two more.

Eight assistants either new to Baton Rouge or new to their means lots of new contracts for the LSU Board of Supervisors to approve, which is set to happen on Friday.

On the offensive side of the ball, quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan was promoted to coordinator and wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Cortez Hankton to co-offensive coordinator, and they'll work under the same contracts.

Via Wilson Alexander of The Advocate, Sloan and Hankton will work on identical 3-year deals that pays $950,000 in 2024, $1 million in '25, and $1.1 million in 2026. Hankton was previously set to earn $950,000 this year, while Sloan was in line to "only" make $650,000 as quarterbacks coach.

Each of LSU's new hires are also set to have their contracts approved on Friday.

-- DC Blake Baker: 3 years, $2.5 million per year
-- DL coach Bo Davis: $1.25 million in 2024, $1.35 million in '25, $1.45 million in '26
-- DBs coach Corey Raymond: $200,000 in 2024 (offset by Florida), $755,000 in 2025 and '26
-- Edges coach Kevin Peoples: 3 years, $700,000 per year
-- Safeties coach Jake Olsen: $350,000 in 2024, $400,000 in 2025
-- TEs coach Slade Nagle: $500,000 in 2024, $525,000 in 2025
-- Strength coach Jake Flint: 3 years, $600,000 per year
-- Senior associate AD for football administration Austin Thomas: 3 years, $425,000 per year

All told, LSU will pay Kelly's on-field assistants $9.27 million in 2024, a modest $50,000 increase from the high-flying (for better or worse) 2023 team.
