Mack Brown announces coaching decision for 2024 season (Mack Brown)

In response to a 247 article he would retire, North Carolina sent this statement on Mack Brown's future.

“It’s that time of year, so someone is going to start this rumor in hopes of affecting our team and/or recruiting like they’ve done past two years," UNC spokesman Jeremy Sharpe said in a statement to FootballScoop. "Mack is full steam ahead. In fact, he already has spring practice planned and is currently setting up recruiting visits for December, so no, he’s not retiring."

Brown, who will turn 73 before next season, is in the fifth season of his second tenure in Chapel Hill. North Carolina is 8-2 this season and 38-24 since returning to UNC.

The 2024 campaign will be Brown's 36th season as a head coach, spread across four universities. He is 282-146-1 as a head coach, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Brown entered coaching as a student assistant at Florida State in 1973.
