Georgia's investment into its coaching staff is now complete.
After paying new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer nearly $1 million a year and new offensive line coach Rob Sale a curious $400,000 a year, Georgia has signed head coach Mark Richt to a four-year contract extension and bumped his salary to $4 million a year.
“We are very pleased with the direction of our program under Mark's leadership,” athletics director Greg McGarity said in a statement. “Mark and his staff are making significant strides in all areas of our program, and we look forward to great things in the years to come.”
Richt's new contract will take him through 2019, which would be his 19th season in Athens. After a 10-3 campaign in 2014, Richt stands at 136-48 with two SEC championships and eight top-10 finishes, including this season.
“I appreciate the confidence that Greg McGarity has in the direction of our football program and how we represent the University of Georgia,” said Richt. “Our staff has an outstanding work ethic and we are committed to the development of our student-athletes on and off the field.”
The new contract will push Richt's salary from $3.2 million to $4 million, which would bump him from 17th to 12th nationally among 2014 coaches according to the USA Today coaching salary database.
