Women making their mark on football isn't exactly "new news". Recently, Jen Welter made waves last year when she became the first female to coach an NFL team during her time as an assistant coaching intern working with the linebackers during training camp for the Arizona Cardinals.
Well Florida high school football is the latest to join the group of trailblazers. Today, at a 4pm EST presser, Lakotronia Brunson was named the new head coach at Miami Jackson HS (FL), becoming the Sunshine State's first female head football coach at the high school level. Miami area legend Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell of 2 Live Crew fame will be her right hand man, serving as assistant head coach / defensive coordinator.
For those that may recognize her, Brunson may look familiar from a character she plays on South Beach Tow. I say "character" because it's one of the the worst kept secrets in showbiz that the show is scripted and episodes seem about as real as real as professional wrestling.

Florida isn't the first state to have a female leading a high school football program, as both Tennessee and Washington, DC have already done it. There will be a lot of eyes on the Miami Jackson program this fall, and this will be an interesting development to keep an eye on for a lot of folks.
