A Group of Five program is allocating a record sum to their new coaching staff (UNLV)

Marcus Arroyo was hired back in December to take over the UNLV head coaching job vacated by Tony Sanchez, who went 20-40 in five seasons. Arroyo has been a longtime assistant and coordinator at places like San Jose State, Wyoming, Cal, Southern Miss, Oklahoma State, and Oregon and UNLV marks his first head coaching opportunity.

The addition of Arroyo and the quality assistants he has chosen to fill his staff with has led to a nice positive buzz heading into the 2020 season. According to a piece by Nevada Sports Net, the bar is being set high for Arroyo and his staff, as the school is investing in their football program like never before.

Previous head coach Tony Sanchez and his staff had a $2.238 million total salary pool last season, and Arroyo and his staff will have $3.425 million to work with. That's a significant investment.

The article also shares that should the program make a bowl gamed, the postseason bonus for each coach is equivalent to one month's salary and Arroyo would get $50k. Also, each coach got a "$10,000 fixed income expense" after signing their deals.

All that, coupled with the fact that UNLV has also recently put nearly $35 million into the football facility, and will play at a brand spanking new $2 billion NFL stadium and the highest recruiting budget in the Mountain West, and its clear with those investments that the expectations are high for Arroyo and the UNLV program moving forward as the school is investing in football like it never has before.

Below is a breakdown of each coach's annual salary, courtesy of the Nevada Sports Net piece, who goes on to compare the investment UNLV is making in their program to what Nevada is doing under Jay Norvell with some really interesting comparisons.
