We looked at the salary market for offensive coordinators last month, and now it's the defensive coordinators' turn. Like with their counterparts on the other side of the ball, there are simply too many big boys missing to fully define the market.
Still, we have plenty of data to draw sweeping conclusions.
According to all available data, not a single defensive coordinator makes $2 million per year. The "median" salary for a Power 5 DC seems to be around $1.1 million.
I'm not saying anyone's underpaid by any stretch of the imagination, but the salary market seems to have leveled off from where it was going five years ago, no?
Before we dive in, a note. Back in January, we (along with ESPN) reported Pete Golding took the Ole Miss job on a 3-year deal at "more than $2 million per year, per sources." We stand by that report, but Ole Miss has yet to release Golding's final contract numbers. Absent that, we'll keep him off the "official" list and update as necessary.
We'll dig into the position coaches next.
