A midwest NAIA program is going to online classes, ending football program (Trinity International)

Just seven weeks ago, back in early January, Mel Mills was tabbed as the new head coach at Trinity International University (NAIA - IL).

However, it appears as if Mills will never get the opportunity to see through his vision of the Trojan football program that helped him land the job in the first place.

During a 3pm news dump this last Friday, Trinity International announced their plans to transition their undergrad courses to a fully online model, choosing to frame it as "Reimagining the Future" in their release of the news.

The college will remain fully operational in-person through May 12th, but will then prepare to take undergrad classes online only.

The lengthy release from the school makes zero mention of having to end athletics, forcing curious minds to go to the FAQ section to find that student-athletes would need to find a new home, and they would help with the transfer process.

TIU finished last season 1-10 after going 3-8 during the 2021 season.

Mills arrived to take over the program after previously spending the past year-and-a-half at Purdue, where he was the team's director of player development.

The website still incorrectly lists Willie Tillman as head coach, and also lists the rest of the staff as follows (some of whom may, or may not be on the hunt for new coaching positions):

Gerry McNichols Jr - Pass game coordinator / QBs
Keith Otis - Offensive Line
Jesse Booton - Running Backs / DFO
Dave Dallstream - Defensive Line
Enrnest Duplessis - Assistant Wide Receivers
Tim Leach - Assistant Offensive Line
