A Pennsylvania HS is putting the finishing touches on some new gold turf (high school)

Boise State has their signature (and trademarked) blue turf, Eastern Washington has the red turf, and now a high school program in Pennsylvania is joining the colored playing surface fraternity.

Belle Vernon Area HS (PA) is currently putting the finishing touches on a $1.4 million stadium renovation that includes the gold turf, a new state-of-the-art scoreboard, and new lighting among various other improvements. Pittsburgh's WTAE noted that the price tag for the turf alone was around $200,000.

Whether you're a fan of it or not, you have to respect the uniqueness.

Interestingly enough, as the finishing touches get put on the unique field, the Bell Vernon Area Education Association and the school's teachers were stuck in negotiations to keep a teacher strike from taking place, which would have prevented coaches who teach from practicing with the team to prepare for their opening game later this week. Good news came this morning as the two sides agreed to a new labor deal.

Now the whole community can come together enjoy the new field on game day.

It looks like Belle Vernon Area will have some new threads to open their stadium with too.
