After landing two top Illinois players, Mario Cristobal and Bret Bielema have an interesting exchange (Bret Bielema)

Over the weekend, Mario Cristobal and Bret Bielema took part in an interesting exchange over social media.

St. Ignatius HS defensive lineman Justin Scott, the recipient of a 5-star rating from 247, and four-star Kenwood Academy Edge player Marquise Lightfoot, who rank 3rd and 6th respectively nationally at their positions, both have pledged to play for the Cristobal and the Hurricanes.

Back on February 7th, Canes Connection - the official NIL collective of Miami - shared via X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) a welcome message to Lightfoot, inviting donors to "Join the community and directly support Marquise's journey" by joining the collective.

That news regarding a recruit from his backyard prompted Bielema to "Repost" that announcement with a comment of his own:

"Yes please send me a brochure would love to see how this works."

Bielema clearly seems not happy about Miami coming into his state to land two of the top players in Illinois.

While Cristobal didn't respond directly to that Repost, his rebuttal was a clear clapback we would have called a "subtweet" back in the Twitter days.

I'm far from an NIL expert, but it seems as if Bielema is either taking aim at Miami's deep NIL pockets and approach, or perhaps shining a light on where Illinois is falling short in the ever-changing NIL landscape.

Either way, it makes for an interesting exchange between the two parties.
