Akron reportedly extends head coach Joe Moorhead

After one season, Akron is reportedly extending head coach Joe Moorhead.

Pete Thamel initially shared the news, adding that the extension adds an extra year to his deal, extending him through 2027.

The report shares that Moorhead fielded interest for Power 5 jobs and from one NFL team as well.

A retention bonus structure that will put Moorhead in the middle of the pack among other MAC head coaches is also included in the deal, Thamel adds.

Moorhead, the former Mississippi State and Fordham (FCS - NY) head coach and former Oregon offensive coordinator, led the Zips to a 2-10 finish this season, but that record doesn't tell the whole story of their year.

Akron blew out Northern Illinois 44-12 in their second-to-last game of the year, showing marked improvement from the beginning of the season. They also played in a number of close games, with four of their five MAC losses at the end of the year decided by one score or less.
