Former Auburn and Ole Miss football coach Tommy Tuberville flipped a Democratic senate seat to the Republicans Tuesday night in an Alabama race.
It was Tuberville's first foray into politics.
The state's and perhaps the sport of college football's most well-known coach on Wednesday laughed off any possibility he might later pursue politics.
“I can answer that part real quick: No,” Nick Saban said, sharing a rare laugh on the SEC coaches' teleconference. “But anyway, Tommy's always been someone who I have a tremendous amount of respect for. We did compete against each other. We've been really good friends a long, long time.
“I'm really happy for him. I think he'll do really good job. We've always tried to stay out of the political arena here just as way of the world and coaching profession.”
Saban's second-ranked Alabama squad is off this week before it travels Nov. 14 to face rival and defending champion LSU in Death Valley.
