Are kids making high school announcements the next big trend?

Recruiting sites like Rivals and 247 have made some serious coin dedicating significant resources to seeing where top high school talent are going to go to college.

Over the past 10 years we've seen that interest help spawn into elaborate graphics, which then turned into even more elaborate videos productions that garner some serious attention.

The hunger from fan bases around recruiting is certainly there and the interest drives a ton of website views, as well as likes, and engagements on social media.

Yesterday, MaxPreps shared an image on Instagram that has gotten over 50,000 likes in 24 hours that has me, and a lot of other folks wondering if it is the next trend.

That post is of a 9-year old announcing where he plans to attend HIGH SCHOOL. This certainly isn't the first announcement of its kind, and won't be the last, but it is garnering quite a bit of attention, for a variety of obvious reasons.

I'm sure I speak for a lot of other coaches in hoping that this is not the next trend on the horizon when it comes to social media announcements and sports.

As silly as sounds to a lot of us, and while many will direct their disdain at the outlet covering the commitment of a 9-year old committing to a high school, 50k likes in a day does illustrate there is a base of people out there that are interested in it.

...and that's exactly how trends start.
