Army honors 'Screaming Eagles' of 101st Airborne in uniforms for Navy game (Army Navy Uniforms)

Army will honor the 101st Airborne division with their special Navy game uniforms on Dec. 14, the program announced Monday. Dubbed the "Screaming Eagles," the 101st fought heroically through freezing conditions to turn back Nazi Germany's last offensive in World War II.

From Army:

Nearly 80 years ago, the Screaming Eagles lived their motto, Rendezvous with Destiny, when they raced into the town of Bastogne in response to the Nazi offensive that would become known as the Battle of the Bulge. The 101st Airborne Division, encircled by Nazi forces, endured three weeks of relentless close combat in freezing weather.

The all black uniforms have a fog effect which, Army says, "reflects the canopy of fog and snow giving ways to shadows beneath the snow-covered pine forests" of France, where the 101st battled the Nazis in the Battle of the Bulge. The all-black helmet has the same effect, with decals reflecting card suits, which signify different paratroopers and glide troopers within the 101st. The promotional material feature clubs, but others will wear diamonds, hearts and spades.

And, while not a headline note, these have to be the first uniforms in college football history with an exclamation point on them.

Army's landing page has all the information one could hope to learn. Navy's special uniforms will presumably be out soon as well.

The Black Knights and Midshipmen will meet for the 125th time on Dec. 14 at Northwest Stadium (the home of the Washington Commanders) in Landover, Md. Jeff Monken's team has won two straight and six of the past eight.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
