The International Football Alliance is one of the latest pop-up spring leagues that will have teams in both the United States and Mexico.
Over the last several months, the league has been loading up on former college coaches that include Air Raid originator Hal Mumme, as well as veteran college offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone.
Back in May, Mazzone was planning to coordinate two high school offenses this fall), and he's set to spend the spring coaching the organization's Guadalajara club.
Last night, the league announced the hire of former Baylor and Houston head coach Art Briles as the head coach of the Dallas Pioneros.
Following his dismissal from Baylor in 2016, a few college programs have tried to hire Briles, each of them ultimately unusuccessful. He spent two seasons going 206 as the head coach at Mount Vernon HS (TX), where he led the team to the state semis, and last year he led the Firenze Guelfi to a championship in their Italian league.
He's not the only recent former college head coach the league is going after either.
ESPN's Dave Wilson shares that former Washington State and Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich is also in negotiations to coach an IFA team.
Rolovich, who spent last season as an assistant at San Marin HS (CA), is suing Washington State after being dismissed in 2021 for refusing to get the COVID vaccination as required by state employees in Washington. Four of his assistant coaches were also fired.
The lawsuit that Rolo filed is set to go in front of a judge in December of 2024, the former leader at Hawaii and Wazzu shared recently.
The two are set to take over teams that will have a 53-person roster with a cap of 20 American players. The rest of the roster has to be filled from Mexico or players from other international count
