Big 12 commissioner tells Joey McGuire to "take care of business" in Texas Tech game vs. Texas (Big 12 Football Schedule)

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark went to Lubbock and managed to Say the Quiet Part Loud.

Speaking to the Red Raider Club, the commissioner implored one of his member teams to beat another member team in a conference game this upcoming season.

Of course, one of those members will be a pillar in the conference for years to come, while another is on its way out the door. Still, both schools referenced are upstanding members of the Big 12 for the entirety of the 2023 season.

"And Coach, I'm not going to put any pressure on you, but I'm going to be in Austin for Thanksgiving. And you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year."

Texas Tech defeated Texas 37-34 in overtime in Lubbock last September. The Longhorns held a 31-17 lead with 4:27 to play in the third quarter before staging a furious rally. The Red Raiders actually took a 34-31 lead in the final minute of regulation before Texas moved 46 yards in 21 seconds to set up a game-tying 48-yard field goal as time expired.

Bijan Robinson fumbled on the first play of overtime, and Trey Wolff nailed a 20-yard field goal to clinch a Red Raider win that Yormark would like to see repeated again on Nov. 24 in the final scheduled game between Texas and Texas Tech (a series born in 1928) and UT's final scheduled Big 12 game.

Yormark's comment brings to mind not only the 2022 Texas Tech game, but the 2022 Oklahoma State game, a 41-34 Cowboy victory that saw a 14-0 penalty margin in favor of OSU.

"We know we have to embrace the hate this year," Texas AD Chris Del Conte said in an interview with Orangebloods. "Everyone in the Big 12 is mad at us. We have a T-shirt we gave all of our staff and kids, 'Embrace the hate.' That's our mantra this year. We won 12 Big 12 championships last year, we won 13 the year before that. Our goal is to win all 20."

There will be plenty of hate to embrace at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Black Friday.
