Big 12 reportedly looking into security issues with coach-to-player headset communication (Coach To Player)

The Big 12 has asked all 16 member schools to return their coach-to-player communication equipment after receiving reports that teams could listen on opponents' conversations, The Athletic reported Wednesday.

According to the story, issues with operational security first became apparent during the Texas A&M-Arkansas game on Sept. 28, at which point officials from each Power 4 conference were notified.

Concerns were raised again within the Big 12 on Tuesday, which prompted the conference to ask each member school to return its equipment, which will now be outfitted with encryption technology.

The conference hopes to return the equipment in time for this weekend's games, but schools have been instructed to develop a contingency plan.

No school has raised accusations of cheating thus far, the report says.

This is the first season in which one coach can communicate directly with one player on each side of the ball's helmet, with communication cutting off 15 seconds before the expiration of the play clock.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.

Update> Multiple sources tell FootballScoop Texas Tech recently was made aware their coach to player in game communications were not secure. The Conference is aware of this and has been in communication with the vendor to seek corrective action.
