With so much of the country in a Game of Thrones fever over the weekend as one of the most-watched TV shows in the history of television came to a close last night, Purdue was doing some really smart marketing of their program.
The Boilermakers staff have made a huge surge in the recruiting rankings recently with a huge influx of young talent being drawn to what Jeff Brohm and his staff are building in West Lafayette. Purdue's 2019 class currently ranks 25th nationally, and 5th in the Big Ten according to 247. To put their surge in perspective, 247 ranked last year's class 51st nationally and 11th in the Big Ten.
A big part of that improvement is Purdue understands how to connect with recruits, and the latest example of that is this Game of Thrones inspiration, shared originally by Purdue director of player personnel

" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eron Hodges. But the best part of this whole thing is, this isn't just a graphic. Purdue took the next step and actually had the throne made, and put in the facility.
Recruits are already eating it up.
Tip of the cap to Purdue. Who knows, maybe the reach of Game of Thrones is so massive that the throne becomes the next must-have thing in your football facility - like barbershops and waterfalls have become recently. If that does catch on, Purdue was the trailblazer, but even if it doesn't, this is really cool and incredibly well executed and will be a conversation piece for a whole lot of folks that take their visit with the Boilermakers.
